Celebrating the 2021 Inauguration!

Celebrating the 2021 Inauguration!

Today we celebrate a historic and monumental moment in American history and, I, for one, couldn’t be more excited! After years of dealing with an administration that encouraged division and denied basic facts, we are finally entering a period of not only normalcy but hopefully progress as well. These past few months, and especially these last couple of weeks, have been extremely draining, so many of us have been on the edge of our seats worried about what new crisis might be lurking around the corner. As of today, I finally feel a sense of relief. We did it! We’ve honored our democracy and put it to work for the people. Our systems held true and through a legitimate, historic, and high-stakes election, over 80 million of us fought against hatred and won. My heart is so full of hope.

In acknowledgement and celebration of this historic day, I decided to make a special cake. This cake represents both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris by showcasing their signature items, Joe’s Ray-Bans and Kamala’s Converses. I made it a marble cake to represent both candidates and kept the frosting simple with a delicious vanilla American buttercream. Red, white, and blue accents helped give it a patriotic vibe and I made the sunglasses and sneakers out of fondant. You can see the process below.

I want us to all get back to celebrating, so here are just 10 of the reasons why I’m so excited to celebrate this historic moment today:

  1. We can undo some of the damage that has been done in the past four years. It won’t be easy and it will take work, but at least it’s an option now.
  2. Issues that matter to me, and countless other Americans, will finally be addressed and actively worked on! If you aren’t aware of all the plans this administration has, you should definitely check out https://joebiden.com/joes-vision/
  3. This administration believes in science! That’s such a relief because, among many other things, it means we can finally go back to acknowledging and actively working against climate change. (Considering we need a habitable planet in order to survive, that’s pretty high on my list of priorities.)
  4. The demographics and diversity of this country are being recognized and represented. It may not be perfect yet but the Biden administration has created the first all-female communications team and selected the most diverse cabinet in American history.
  5. The Covid pandemic which has tragically cost over 400,000 American lives, as well as many others across the world, will finally be viewed as the serious health threat that it is and steps will be taken to combat it. Those of us who need help, the poor, the recently unemployed, struggling families and businesses, will finally have some hope.
  6. Our new first lady, Dr. (emphasis on doctor) Jill Biden, is an educator! I’m looking forward to an administration that values education and will hopefully invest in making sure our students and teachers are supported.
  7. HISTORY IS BEING MADE!! There are so many historic firsts with this incoming administration but the one that has me emotionally overwhelmed is Kamala Harris becoming our first Black, South Asian, and woman vice president. As a Black woman, I can’t properly articulate how inspiring this is. So often women, especially Black women, face challenges reaching our goals in this country due to our racial identity so seeing someone like Kamala get sworn into this role today sets an amazing standard for so many people.
  8. NO MORE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION!!! Regardless of your political party, this is something worth celebrating. We don’t have to worry about the stability of our country anymore. We don’t have to question the integrity of our White House. We don’t have to be scared of what’s being said on Twitter!
  9. OUR DEMOCRACY WORKED!!! Things were looking a little scary for a bit but we pulled through. It’s worth noting again that over 80 million Americans came together to vote for an administration that values unity, truth, and progress. Despite all the issues we’ve faced recently, that gives me hope. We still have a lot of work to do, but it can be done.
  10. Because our democracy worked, we know we can hold this administration, and all future administrations, accountable. Our votes mattered. Our votes counted. We did it, everyone!

I’d love to hear all the reasons you’re celebrating today so please share in the comments or email me at TimeToEducake@gmail.com! Treat yourself to something sweet and enjoy the rest of this absolutely beautiful day!
